Spencerport church gathers donations
for Christmas and flood victims

The Spencerport United Methodist Church is participating in Operation Christmas Child and a “flood bucket” donation collection drive.

The church is requesting participation from the community in this outreach by bringing a gift-filled shoebox to the Spencerport United Methodist Church, 32 Amity Street, Saturdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon, or from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2 (Election Day). Boxes will be sent on November 7. Individuals are asked to find an empty shoebox; decide whether your gift will be for a boy or girl and select an age category 2 to 4, 5 to 9, or 10 to 14; fill the shoebox with small gifts (toys, school supplies, candy, flashlights with batteries, raincoats, socks, baseball caps, hygiene items, etc.) Please do not include the following: used items, war-related toys (such as guns or knives), perishable food items, liquids of any kind, medicines of any kind or breakable items (such as mirrors, china dolls, or snow globes); on top of the items in the box, place an envelope with $5 or more to help cover shipping and other costs. Checks can be made out to Samaritan’s Purse. Put a rubber band around the box and lid; and bring it to the Spencerport United Methodist Church, 32 Amity Street.

Since 1993 Operation Christmas Child has delivered shoeboxes to 24 million children in over 115 countries across the globe. Visit www.samaritanspurse.org for information.

Also, to aid hurricane victims in Florida, the church is collecting cleaning supplies to fill “Flood Buckets,” a project coordinated through the United Methodist Committee on Relief. A list of these necessary items is available online at http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/.
