Raiders on way to NAIA regionals

The #17 ranked men's soccer team needed some last second heroics from sophomore Keon David (Plymouth, Tobago) to send them to the NAIA Region IX Tournament. The Raiders defeated Walsh University 1-0 with 51 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

Walsh seemed content to sit in and defend for most of the game, as huge portions were played in their final third. The Raiders generated the majority of the chances with five shots on goal and 14 shots overall compared to Walsh's 0 shots on goal and two overall. The Cavaliers seemed poised to take part in a penalty shootout should the game end in a tie.

The Raiders, who defeated Walsh 3-0 earlier this season, continued to send numbers into the box in hope of scoring the game winner. In the 109th minute they were rewarded. Junior sweeper Scott Bradley (Lyndonville, New York) dribbled deep into the Cavaliers' half and picked out sophomore Dennis Idrissa (Niger, Africa) in the final third of the field. Idrissa laid the ball back to junior Linos Sinkala (Zambia, Africa) who took a touch before sending the ball diagonally to the back post to a waiting Keon David. David settled the ball before slotting it home into the back of the net.

With the win, Roberts improves to 17-3-1 on the season and advanced to the NAIA Region IX tournament where they will play Tiffin University on November 12. The winner of that game advanced to the region final and a chance for an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
