Brockport Village Board discusses library budget

A three percent increase was requested by the Seymour Library for its operating budget and Village of Brockport officials approved the increase at the November 15 board meeting.

"Clarkson agreed to the 3 percent and Sweden acquiesced to 2 percent," Mayor Josephine Matela told board members. "I think it's money well spent for the community." The three municipalities contribute funds annually for the library budget. Brockport presently contributes $147,027 toward the operating budget and with the three percent increase will contribute $151,438.

Questions were raised regarding the accounting and administrative end of the library's operations. "This was supposed to have been done on a rotating basis between the village, Clarkson and Sweden," Trustee Ian Coyle said. "I've looked back at the contract, which began in 1979 and the village has done the books since the beginning."
