Clarendon approves budget

Reducing health care costs, increased construction, a town-wide reassessment and holding the line on spending all contributed to a decrease in the Town of Clarendon's 2005 tax rate.

Taxpayers in the town will see a tax rate of $4.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2005. The tax rate in 2004 was $4.85, Town of Clarendon Supervisor Dick Moy said. "I think this is absolutely a good budget," he said.

The town is looking at a total budget of $1,011,449 with estimated revenues of $390,864.

Moy said the town has also completed work on Water District #8 and will hopefully begin work on Water District #7 in the spring.

In other matters, town officials are scheduled to appear in court on November 29 to answer complaints raised by town residents. Moy said he was unable to speak about the matter further because it was pending litigation.
