Ogden Farmers' Library receives grant from Target Stores

The Ogden Farmers' Library is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from Target Stores in support of the "City Country: Know Your Neighbors" pen pal program. The program, a joint effort between the Ogden Library and the Lyell Branch of the Rochester Public Library, debuted in the summer of 2004. Children from both libraries were paired up as pen pals and wrote to each other through July and August. Participants wrote about the books they read during the summer and also shared information about their daily lives. Twenty five children wrote throughout the summer and met face-to-face at a tour and picnic at Springdale Farm in Ogden.

Both libraries hope to offer the program again in the summer of 2005, and this time the children from Ogden will have the opportunity to visit the city. The city destination has not yet been decided, but will likely be the Rochester Public Library, the Strong Museum, or the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
