Annual Hamlin Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 4

The Friends of the Hamlin Library will continue their tradition by sponsoring the annual tree lighting ceremony in the Town of Hamlin on December 4, on the library grounds.

Everyone is invited to participate in the decorating of Hamlin's Tree of Names by bringing an ornament with their family, business or organization's name on it to hang on the tree. Every ornament which survives the season's wintery weather is packed up and saved to be placed on the tree each year. Some ornaments, including a handmade ornament of cardboard, began their tenure at the first tree lighting ceremony in 2000 and have survived each year. All donors are registered in the Tree of Names book.

Activities will begin at 4 p.m. with a children's craft and story hour in the library. Local talent will participate in a pre-tree lighting program which will begin at 4:30 p.m. culminating in the tree lighting at 5 p.m. A visit from Santa and refreshments will follows.

One child will win the chance to light the tree. Every child, 2 to 14, attending the event will receive a chance to have their name drawn as the lucky tree lighter. Children receive additional chances in the weeks prior to the ceremony each time they check out a book at the Hamlin Public Library (limit one per child per day).
