Hilton Lions Club picks a winner

Lions Clubs International conducts an annual art contest for thousands of school children from around the world. Each year the theme centers around peace and the contest has become known as the "peace poster" contest. School children can enter their poster in the contest through a local Lions Club, who then judge the posters and forward them up through competition.

This year's peace poster of Elizabeth Reinhardt from the Northwood Elementary School was selected and sent to the district level for judging. Because of the relationship of Lions Clubs International and the United Nations, the winning student and their parents are flown to a meeting of the United Nations in the spring, when the final winner is announced. This year, the United Nations Postal Administration has selected six finalists' posters from last year to become stamps. The UN/Lion stamps can be affixed onto letters and packages mailed from UNPA offices to 191 countries in the world. These were to be released in September 2004.

Hilton Lions Club "Peace Poster" chairperson Lion Laurie Greene was impressed by both the quality and quantity of posters produced with the theme of peace.
