Girl Scouts
clean up cemetery

On Veterans Day, girls from Hilton Girl Scout troops 444 and 194 used their day off from school to enhance the veterans section at Riverside Cemetery. They cleaned the grass away from about 120 flat headstones which had been made barely visible by the growth. Some participants later returned to clear off about 20 more markers and they plan to continue their efforts to help maintain the site. Their efforts were part of the bronze award project, Veterans - Past and Present. Additionally, members of the troops are making Christmas cards for soldiers in Iraq and veterans in local veteran hospitals as part of their bronze award requirements.
