Northwood Elementary School
book club receives Target Grant

Northwood Elementary School's Family Book Club, FIRST (Families Invited to Read and Share Together) has received a $1,000 reading grant from the Greece Target store to promote a love of reading and to encourage families to read together according to FIRST facilitator and founder, parent Dorothy Distefano. "I applied for the grant this spring after reading an informational flyer from the local Greece Target store. This describes FIRST perfectly. FIRST's goals are to improve reading comprehension through discussion, encourage family communications by reading together, increase parental involvement and increase time spent reading for fun outside of school," she said. "The grant will purchase over 500 books for students as well as other incentives for program members and refreshments for meetings."
