B-B 8th graders' project benefits Ronald McDonald House

Byron-Bergen Middle School's 8th grade tech class delivered tic-tac-toe boards to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester on December 21. The tech students who have been studying mass production, engineering and design for the past few weeks in Jay Wolcott's class, created tic-tac-toe boards. Students had to decide what design they wanted to use and while some students manufactured the boards, others write directions and made phone calls asking for tee donations. Students had to employ the skills they learned earlier in the year from hand sanding to using power tools. They completed the project in a period of two weeks.

Instructors said this has been a wonderful opportunity to take skills learned in the classroom and share them with others during the holiday season. "Our class is just glad that we can give to those that are not as fortunate as us while using the skills we learn in class," says B-B student Kimberly Eysaman. Classmate Kaitlyn Moucha added, "We enjoyed using our skills to give back to our community."

The students say Scott Sweeney, general manager at Terry Hills Golf Course, and Brian Moucha helped make the project possible by donating tees.
