Bright Raven gymnasts win at Candy Cane Classic

Bright Raven Gymnastics Club in Gates played host to the 2004 Candy Cane Classic December 4 and 5 with nearly 250 gymnasts competing from 11 upstate New York programs. Many of the Bright Raven gymnasts finished on top in the all around and individual event competition.

Rachel Eckert of Irondequoit took first place all around (36.625) in the Level 7 competition for gymnasts ages 11-12. Eckert was also first in every event: vault (9.30), uneven bars (8.975), balance beam (9.35) and floor exercise (9.00). Teammate Alyssa Kober of Ogden was first all around (36.95) in the 13 and over age division. Kober also earned first place on vault (9.05), first on bars (9.525) and second on beam (9.05) and floor (9.325).

In the Level 8 competition for gymnasts ages 15 and over, Jenna Easton of Chili took second place on floor exercise (9.15) and third on bars (8.90).

Competing in the 15 and over division of Level 9, Justine Picciano of Henrietta took third place all around (34.15) and third place in three events: bars (8.20), beam (8.80) and floor (8.75). Kerry Apeland of Chili was third on vault (8.50) in the same division.

Bright Raven gymnasts took the top three all around places in the Level 5 competition for ages 10-11. Kristina Nupp of Churchville captured first all around (36.225) and was also first on floor (9.625) and second on bars (9.25). Amber Harewood of Chili took second place all around (36.175) and also took first on bars (9.40) and second on floor (9.40). The third place all around winner was Alyssa Morone of Chili (34.925). Morone also placed second on vault (8.65). In Level 5 competition for ages 12 and over, Shannon Fitzgerald of Chili was second on vault (8.825) and Amanda Goldfischer of Greece was third on (floor (9.15).

In the Level 4 competition for gymnasts ages 11 and over, Bright Raven also swept the first three all around places. Lauren Ciranni of Spencerport took first place all around (36.625) and was also first on vault (9.5), third on bars (8.65) and third on floor (9.35). Melissa Rombola of Spencerport was second all around (36.275) and finished first on bars (8.70) and second on beam (9.425) and floor (9.375). The third place all around winner was Laura Manciocchi of Chili (35.95). Manciocchi was also third on beam (9.20). In the same division, Haley Cunningham of LeRoy won first place on beam (9.55) and first on floor (9.475). Nicole Bell of Gates earned second place on vault (9.375) and Tara Phillips of Spencerport was third on vault (9.10). In the 9-10 age group, Carly King of Churchville and Danielle Adam of Greece tied for first place on vault (9.075). King also took second on beam (9.275). In the 8 and under age group, Megan Stevens of Brockport took first place on vault (9.45) and second all around (35.35). Audrey Clarke of Churchville earned third place in both vault (9.10) and beam (9.05).
