C-C Peace Poster contest winners chosen

Local first place winners for the Lions International Peace Poster Contest were 6th grader Jessica Lovering and 7th grader MacKenzi Martin. The Churchville Lions Club sponsored separate contests at the Churchville-Chili Intermediate and Junior High Schools. Second through fifth place winners in the Intermediate School were, in order, Sarah Fricano, Naima Abedin, Kristi Giavannini and Lauren Daggs. Winners at the Junior High School were Stephanie Brown, Phylicia Taladay, Jessica Standhart and Zac Van Aernum.

The Lions Club awarded a $50 U.S. Savings Bond and Certificates of Achievement from Lions International to the first, second and third-place winners. The fourth and fifth place winners each received a Certificate of Achievement and a $10 gift certificate. Churchville Lion and District 20E-1 Governor Peter Neidrauer presented the awards to the students.

Lovering's and Martin's posters will advance to round two of district competition, and potentially on through three more rounds of international competition. More than 325,000 entries were submitted worldwide in this, the seventeenth annual contest, sponsored to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people. Twenty-four finalists will be selected with the grand prize winner awarded $2,500 in cash and an all-expense paid trip with two family members to the Lions Day with the United Nations award ceremony in New York City. The remaining finalists will each get $500 and a Certificate of Achievement.
