Holley students help those in need

Holley Jr./Sr. High School students joined forces this holiday season to help both those near and far. The Jr. High Student Council conducted their annual penny drive during lunch periods for a week in December. All of the change collected was donated to the Open Door Mission in Rochester to help feed the homeless. The students also collected non-perishable food items at December's seventh- and eighth-grade dance. These items were boxed and delivered to the Eastern Orleans Community Center and distributed to the needy in the area. Students also are collecting items for the troops in Iraq.

The Holley Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) did their part by creating a "Mitten Tree." A tree was displayed in the main office, so students, staff and family members could decorate it with mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. At the end of the drive, the items were donated to the needy in the area. The NJHS also visited St. Paul's Church in Holley where they helped wrap food baskets and warm outerwear for those in need.

The Holley Senior High Student Council and National Honor Society sponsored a food, clothing and necessities drive in December. All together, they collected 269 items that filled eight boxes that went to the Eastern Orleans Community Center.
