•Ertle, Cynthia C. (Christian), On January 6, 2005, at the age of 47. She was predeceased by her mother, Grace Hale. She is survived by her beloved husband, John; sons, Alan and Matthew; father, Alan Christian; sisters, Cathy Christian, Carol Christian and Cheryl (Richard) Simmons; father-in-law, John R. (Dorothy) Ertle Sr.; mother-in-law, Lorna Kenyon; sister-in-law, Debbie Ertle (John Ray); brother-in-law, Bill Ertle; stepfather-in-law, Robert Hale; special friend, Frank Hoyt; and dear friends Devon Marks and David Mueller.

A Funeral Mass was said January 11 at Church of the Nativity B.V.M., Brockport. Private interment.


•Gerber, Philip L., Ph.D., January 5, 2005, age 81. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Eugenia (Gene); sons Gaylen Gerber of Chicago, Illinois and Dr. Glenn Gerber of San Diego, California; daughter Vivien (John) Anderson of Oneonta; grandchildren Katherine and Michelle Anderson; sister Pauline Davies of Aberdeen, South Dakota; brothers Dr. Bernard (Marcella) Gerber of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Dr. James (Nell) Gerber of Modesto, California, Robert (Joyzelle) Gerber of Del Mar, California, Dr. Edward Gerber of Reno, Nevada and Thomas Gerber of Sturgis, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother, John. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Dr. Gerber received Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa. He was an active scholar, writer, and teacher of 20th century American literature for more than 55 years and authored numerous books and articles. Dr. Gerber held faculty and administrative positions at several universities before coming to SUNY Brockport in 1966, retiring in 2001 as a SUNY Distinguished Professor. Dr. Gerber was an avid book collector, traveler and gardener.

Memorial Service will be held at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Brockport, at a future date. Donations can be made to the Philip Gerber American Literature Lecture Series, which the family has established in his honor (SUNY Brockport College Foundation, 350 New Campus Drive, Brockport, NY 14420) or to the Western Monroe Historical Society (150 Main Street, Brockport, NY 14420).


•Nichols, Marietta (MacIntyre), January 7, 2005 at the age of 94. She is predeceased by her husband Howard, brothers, William Arch, Roy Eugene, Raymond and George; sister, Jayne Sears and several sisters-in-law. Survived by sons, Larry (Pat), Ed (Sherry) and daughter, Barb (Bob) Huffer; grandchildren, Tim Nichols, Maripat (Brian) Kayes, Tammy Huffer, Bobbi Huffer, Vicki (Chuck) Lind, Penni (Bob) Wolf, Rick (Moon) Nichols, Kameko Nichols; 11 great grandchildren; special goddaughter, Karen Wilk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service was held January 10 at the Grace Baptist Church, Brockport. Private interment. Contributions can be made to Rainbows of Hope or the Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong in her memory.


CHURCHVILLE

•Reed, Rev. Arden L., January 7, 2005 at age 91. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gertrude (Frink) Reed; his children, Marcia (Glenn) Tingley of Stow, Ohio, Melda (Philip) Delamater of Beaumont, Texas, Ardith (Chris) Lanphear of Greece and A. Nathan (Susan) Reed of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; 12 grand-children; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Rev. Reed was Pastor Emeritus at Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church, North Chili.

Funeral Services were held January 12 at Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church, North Chili. Interment, Creekside Cemetery, Churchville. Donations can be made to Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church, 4322 Buffalo Road, North Chili 14514 in his memory.


HAMLIN

•Baase, Evelyn M. (Rockow), On January 7, 2005. She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Linda) of Chicago, Randall of Hamlin and Richard (Karole), of Kent; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service was held January 11 at Fowler Funeral Home, Inc., Brockport. Interment will be in the spring of the year at Lakeside Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association or St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamlin, in her memory.


HILTON

•Hendershot, Burton, Age 82. Predeceased by his beloved sister, Barbara Miles, 2004. Survived by his wife, Ellen; cousins and many dear friends.

•Kimmel, Virginia (Pickett), January 7, 2005, age 77. Survived by her husband Frank "Duke" Kimmel; her children, Douglas (Betty) Kimmel, Kathryn (David) Diedrich, Kory (Gary) Farmer, Dann Kimmel; seven grandchildren, Mark, Matthew, Jason and Randy Kimmel, Paul and Eric Diedrich and Rene (Jim) Constantine; four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Jessica, James and Jacqueline; sister Mary Townsend; nieces, nephews and many friends.

•Gallagher, Harry M. "Pat," January 4, 2005, age 78. Survived by his wife, Mary; children, Laurie Crowe, Susan (James) Neary, Jill (John) Bartholomew-Gallagher, Patrick Gallagher, Brian Gallagher; grand-children, Amy, William, Nathan, Katie, Carrie, Michelle, Jason, Clare; great-grandson, Ryan.

•Everett, Harold S., January 5, 2005 at age 50, in St. Louis, Missouri following complications of double lung transplant. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Rapp) Everett; his daughter Haley E. Everett; brother Glenn Everett; sisters Carol (Cliff) Wadkins and Mickey (Dennis) Baker; aunt Grace Perry, uncle Lee (Lucky) Perry; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lois Everett and his uncle, Oliver Perry. He was an employee of Eastman Kodak Company.

A Funeral Service was held January 11 at the United Methodist Church, North Chili. Interment, North Chili Rural Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Haley Everett Trust Fund, c/o ESL or to Churchville or Chili Lions Clubs in his memory.


OGDEN

•Alderman, Robert M., January 5, 2005 at age 81. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Stackman) Alderman. He is survived by his son Kenneth A. Alderman; brother Donald (Marve) Alderman of Olean; sister Leora Anderson of Hume; several nieces and nephews. He was retiree of Harris Seed Company.

•Foley, Lauretta T., age 74, formerly of Clinton, died January 7, 2005. Predeceased by her husband, Raymond. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Keith Berner, Karen and David Sellers; grandchil-dren, Sarah Berner and David Sellers, Jr.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Karen Mosher.

Interment January 12 in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.


•Ruf, Emmeline, January 4, 2004, age 81.
