Monroe County invites entries in
Environmental Photography Competition

The Monroe County Environmental Management Council (EMC) is sponsoring the 2005 Environmental Photography Competition and Show. This year's competition is entitled "Capturing Monroe County's Environmental Treasures."

The competition is open to amateur photographers only. Photographs must be taken in Monroe County. Entrants need to complete an entry form, available on the Monroe County website at www.monroecounty.gov or by calling the EMC office at 585-274-8063.

The judges for the 2005 competition are Andy Olenick, a commercial photographer whose work has been featured in Erie Canal Legacy; Peter Marr, a local wildlife photographer; and John Retallack, Professor of Photography at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Entries will be accepted in three subject categories - wild animals, plantlife, and landscape. There are three competition levels - youth 14 and under, novice and advanced.

Each entrant may submit up to three unframed and unmatted photographs. Photos may be color or black and white and must be no larger than 5 x 7 inches or no smaller than 3 x 5 inches.

Entries must be postmarked by August 17 or received at the EMC office at 111 Westfall Road by August 19.

Determination and notification of winners and runners-up will be made on August 30. An awards reception will be held on September 21 at the County Office Building.

Winning photographs (Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mentions) will be displayed at various locations throughout the community. Award recipients will also have the option of selling their photographs to interested buyers.
