BPD makes arrest in marijuana case

Members of the Brockport Police Department wrapped up a month long investigation in January that culminated in the arrest of a 52-year old man, Ollie Hunter.

Hunter was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his North Main Street residence. Police Chief Dan Varrenti said Hunter was found to be in possession of approximately 14 ounces of marijuana of which 157 bags of marijuana were prepackaged and ready for sale.

The investigation began based on a tip from a citizen who stated that they had observed large amounts of pedestrian traffic coming and going from the apartment. Sergeant Adam Mesiti could not give specifics but did state that surveillance conducted by members of the Brockport Police did confirm the high volume of traffic coming and going from the residence. In addition to the marijuana, a number of guns, daggers and other weapons were seized.

The investigation also revealed that Hunter had been distributing marijuana over a period of time.

"While the seizure of 14 ounces of marijuana may not be a significant arrest in the grand scheme of narcotics trafficking, one thing is certain, 157 bags of marijuana won't be distributed in the Brockport area," Mesiti said.

Mesiti credits the work of the other officers, specifically Paul Wheat, in the success of this investigation.

Hunter was charged with felony criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Sweden Town Court and committed to jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
