Scout project renovates swimming pool records sign at Brockport High School

Mark MacEwan, a BHS sophomore and a member of Boy Scout Troop 111 in Brockport, recently completed a renovation of the swimming record board at the Brockport High School swimming pool. MacEwan is working toward the rank of Eagle Scout and this project fulfills one of his requirements.

The renovation involved the removal of the record board prior to construction work that began in May 2004 at the pool, repair and repainting of the frame, acquiring additional carpeting that holds the record placards, researching the current record holders, and reinstalling the sign which measures 8 feet high by 38 feet long. He found the former sign was often tough to read and lacked an organization of the records. Signage was added to identify thirteen swimming/diving events, boys and girls' classifications, and school name.

MacEwan, who is 15, is a member of the Brockport varsity swim team. This project benefits the community, the school teams, and Mark's interest in sports information by better identifying what records belong to which swimmers. He thanks all those who volunteered their time and talents, and Brockport Custom Carpet, Inc., for the donation of additional carpeting for the sign background.
