Melayne Karnitz, a member of the class of 2006 at Wells College has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2004 semester. She is the daughter of Michael and Deborah Karnitz of Brockport.


Jake Moskal, a senior at the State University of New York at Albany, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2004 semester, achieving a 4.0 average.

He is majoring in economics and philosophy. His parents are Edie and Dave Moskal of Ogden.


Patrick C. Taylor, of Spencerport, has successfully completed the Connecticut Police Corps Training and has been assigned to duty with the Milford, Connecticut Police Department. Cadet training includes 1,350 hours of emergency vehicle operation, weapons use, physical methods of arrest, enforcement tactics, and code book laws. Officer Taylor received the "Top Gun" award for his proficiency in firearms.

Officer Taylor is a 1996 graduate of Spencerport High School and a 2001 graduate of Keuka College where he majored in criminology. He is the son of Daniel and the late Sharen Taylor of Ogden.


Brian J. Hunt graduated from Clemson University in South Carolina on December 16, 2004 with a Ph.D. degree in mathematical sciences.

Hunt is the son of Fred and Cathy Hunt of Churchville and a 1991 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School. He did his undergraduate work at SUNY Geneseo.

Hunt is currently living in Arlington, Virginia with his wife, Beth, and is teaching at American University in Washington, D.C.


Alfred State College has awarded scholarships to the following area residents:

  • Joseph Brightly of Hamlin was awarded approximately $2,000 for an "All-American Scholarship." Brightly is slated to graduate in 2005 from Kendall Jr.-Sr. High School and intends to enroll in the agriculture-agricultural business program.
  • Rachel Newman of Brockport was awarded a $500 "Educational Foundation Academic Distinction Scholarship." Newman is slated to graduate in 2005 from Brockport High School and intends to enroll in the architectural technology program.

Nazareth College in Rochester announces the following students have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2004 semester. Courtney Hundley of Hamlin; Laurance Bish of North Chili; Greta Johnson of Brockport; Laura Rupp of Spencerport and Jacqueline VanDeWater of Churchville.


Christopher J. Hajecki, son of Jean Hajecki, Hilton and Joseph Hajecki, North Greece, has been named to the fall 2004 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Hajecki, a senior, is a communications major.

To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.


Chief Master Sergeant James R. Kent, USAF, son of Richard and Jean Kent of Spencerport, retired from 34 years of military service. Kent is a former USMC Viet Nam veteran. He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve in June 1977 and was recalled to active duty with the Air Force Special Operations Command Search and Rescue following 9/11, supporting operations in the Iraqi Freedom Campaign.


Air Force Airman First Class Adam G. Clonick participated in the 55th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Joint Task Force-Armed Forces Inaugural Committee. The competitively selected members from the five branches of U.S. military services arrive according to a time-phased plan at the direction of the Secretary of Defense.

The airman served as a ceremonial guardsman. He has two years of military service. He is the son of Gregory and Florine Clonick of Hilton and a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.


Army Pfc. Peter A. Warner has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma. The training included completion of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).

He is the son of Craig and Kyong Warner of Smith Street, Brockport and a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School.


Army Pfc. Kyle D. Foelsch has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma. The training included completion of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).

He is the son of Douglas and Darline Foelsch of Church Road, Hamlin and a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School.


James A. Sutera has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Tech Sgt. Sutera is a traffic management apprentice with the 914th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Niagara Falls.

He is the son of Albert J. and Elba M. Sutera of Highview Terrace, Ogden.

The sergeant is a 1985 graduate of a high school program in Rochester.
