Common Sense Parenting course to be offered in Hilton

Common Sense Parenting, a practical, skill-based parenting program that can be applied to every family, will be offered for Hilton area parents at the Hilton Community Center beginning dates: March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and April 6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for six consecutive Wednesdays. The course was developed by Boys Town and is taught by BOCES 2 Social Worker Maria Tantillo-Mueller, LMSW for parents whose children have on-going behavior management needs.

The program's strategies and techniques address issues of communication, discipline, decision-making, relationships, self-control and school success. "Parents learn practical skills to encourage positive behavior, discourage negative behavior and teach alternatives to problem behaviors for 6-16 year olds," Tantillo-Mueller said. "The class is free, but attendance at all classes is required. Materials will be provided. You are encouraged to register early as space is limited. Refreshments will be provided. Childcare is available with pre-registration for children 12 and under." The Hilton Community Center is located at 59 Henry Street, Hilton.

For registration and/or information, contact Program Facilitator Maria Tantillo-Mueller, LMSW at 349-8880.
