Parents support test-taking students with "care packages"

Students at Spencerport's Cosgrove Middle School facing midterm exams January 26-28 got extra support from their parents, who signed up with the school to have "care packages" delivered January 25 to their students. The packages included various candy and a note from their parents. Some parents even showed extra creativity by having the note "written" by the family pet.

The packages were the idea of Jan Boulay, Student Council advisor at the school. A surprise to the students, the package project raised more than $300 for the eighth grade class from parents, who paid $1 to have the packages delivered to their students. The class is seeking funds for their Day of Celebration in June, which will include visits to Tinseltown and Seabreeze.

"It is sometime difficult for parents to communicate with students at this age," said Bonnie Seaburn, principal at Cosgrove. "These care packages provide an opportunity for parents to say, 'I care about you' in a way that's novel and fun."
