Area stables pull together to support
therapeutic riding program

On February 26, the First Annual Greater Rochester Horseman's Winter Classic will take place at Paterson Stable, 2009 Harris Road in Penfield. The event will benefit Heritage Christian Stables' Therapeutic Riding Program for children and adults with developmental disabilities which is operated by Heritage Christian Services. Organizers are anticipating 100 riders from 11 local barns to participate in the event.

The Greater Rochester Horseman's Winter Classic not only benefits Heritage Christian Stables but the local riding community as well. Stable owners state they have been waiting for an event like this. Certified riding instructor Janet Zimmer says, "There have been no winter lesson shows in the area due to lack of show space until now. This is a great opportunity for local riders to show their lesson skills in the off season in addition to raising funds for and awareness of therapeutic riding."

Cost for participation includes a $15 per class entry fee and a $20 grounds fee. The general public is welcome to attend for free. The show will begin at 8 a.m. and concessions will be available for purchase.
