Scholarship foundation established

The Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation was established to benefit students who reside in the towns of Sweden and Hamlin. McGrath passed away in 2003 and as part of her estate bequest, she designated the establishment of a private foundation for college scholarships. Under the bequest, funds were set aside for the foundation.

There are two separate scholarships provided for through the foundation. The first is the Marie Dollard McGrath Scholarship providing tuition money for students majoring in elementary education. Marie Dollard McGrath was the mother of Margaret and taught elementary education in the City of Rochester. The second scholarship is the Philip and Margaret Dollard Scholarship providing tuition money for students majoring in business. Philip and Margaret Dollard were the grandparents of Margaret McGrath and operated a successful business in the town of Hamlin.

Ms. McGrath was a teacher in the Penfield Central School district for 37 years and retired as chairperson of the business department.

Students majoring in the field of study identified by the specific scholarships are encouraged to apply. Additional information and an application can be obtained by contacting Richard Dollard, executive director and trustee at 637-7170 or at www.frontiernet.net/~mcgrathfound/scholarshipfund.htm.
