Coats for Seniors program

County Executive Maggie Brooks and County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo have launched the first annual "Coats for Seniors" program. The program, which is sponsored by Monroe County's Office for the Aging, will distribute donated winter coats to seniors in need across Monroe County.

"The winter cold can be very dangerous for those who are not properly dressed for the weather, and seniors are especially vulnerable," said Brooks. "Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our seniors. This program will help ensure that seniors in our community who need winter coats will get them."

Donations of adult-sized coats will be accepted at any local senior center in Monroe County during the month of February. A donation box has also been set up in the atrium of the Monroe County Office Building. Officials from local senior centers will work with Monroe County's Office for the Aging to distribute the winter coats, at no cost, to seniors across the community.

"This is a very simple way for all of us to come together to meet the needs of seniors in our community," said Dinolfo. "I am pleased to work with County Executive Brooks in this effort to help seniors in Monroe County." Dinolfo serves with senior advocates and community leaders on the Monroe County Council of Elders.

Individuals with questions about the program or in need of further information can contact the Monroe County Office for the Aging at 274-6280. A listing of senior centers is available on the Monroe County website at www.monroecounty.gov.
