Registration open for summer camp activities

The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley has openings for its resident and day camp at Camp Pinewood (nestled in the hills of the Finger Lakes region near Dansville) and day camp at Camp Piperwood in Perinton. Girls do not need to be currently registered in Girls Scouts to sign up for summer camp. Camping opportunities are offered to 6 to 18 year olds.

Camp Pinewood sits on 780 acres of beautiful wooded grounds with a private lake, hiking trails, a swimming pool, as well as large sports and archery fields in Dansville. Camp Pinewood offers three-, four-, six- and 13-day overnight programs that run from July 5 to August 5. Campers may choose sessions that focus on horseback riding, swimming, making crafty creations, outdoor cooking, hiking and completing the ropes course. Girls entering grades 4-12 sleep on comfy beds in large-platform tents with either an A-frame or canvas roof. Older girls have a new unit that features a kitchen shelter and A-frame tents with electricity that are connected by a deck. Girls may also register for day camp at Dogwood, located at Camp Pinewood in Dansville, for a one-week session from August 9 to 13.

Camp Piperwood is preparing to welcome 2005 campers with a new splash park and Freedom's Rites Pavilion. Camp Piperwood, located at 2222 Turk Hill Road in Perinton, offers three weeks of all-girl day camp (July 11 to 29) and two weeks of coed day camp (August 1 to 12). Girls may hike, cool off in the splash park and pavilion, play games, sing songs, cook out and make crafts. Beginning horseback riding is also offered.

Daily bus transportation is available for day camp programs. Extended care is available before and after regular camp times for girls attending Camp Piperwood in Perinton.
