Joey Luciano of Hamlin has been named to the president's list at Oswego State College. He is the son of Janet and Peter Luciano of Greenridge Crescent, Hamlin.


Kelly Duff, of Brockport, daughter of Robert and Nancy Duff, has been named to the dean's list at SUNY at Albany. She is majoring in political science and is interning at the NYS Senate.


Hartwick College senior Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Bruce H. Arva and the late Pamela M. Arva, has been named to the fall term dean's list at Hartwick.


For the fifth year in a row, Alfred University students won top honors at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) competition, held at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania in January. Alfred University's theater department was represented at the festival by 15 acting and design/technical students and two faculty members.

Brockport resident Elizabeth Van Deusen, a senior in the School of Art and Design, will advance for the second consecutive year to the national competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in April.

A graduate of Brockport High School, Van Deusen won the Region II Mehron Makeup Design Award for Excellence in Makeup Design for the AU Theatre Department's spring '04 production of "Fiddler on the Roof" by Bock, Stein and Harnick. Her award was the sole regional honor given in the make-up design category.

Van Deusen also received the KCACTF Region II Barbizon Award for Theatrical Design Excellence in Costume Design alternate for her costume designs for "Cloud Nine" by Caryl Churchill, one of the AU Theatre Department's fall productions.


Jenna Lee Barber of Holley, a junior majoring in musical theater in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, participated in the SU Drama Department production of "The Front Page."


Meredith Keymel, daughter of John and Karen Keymel of Greece, has been named to the president's list for the fall semester at SUNY Cortland.


Ryan F. Schicker of Hamlin, an architectural technology major, has been named to the fall 2004 dean's list at Morrisville State College.


Katrina Schmidt, daughter of Kim and Patrick Schmidt of Ogden, has been named to the fall 2004 dean's list at St. John Fisher College. Schmidt, a senior, is a childhood and special education major.


Brendan James Gaesser, son of Amy Gaesser of Kendall and James Gaesser of Leicester, and a 2003 graduate of Kendall Junior/Senior High School who is majoring in psychology, has been named to the fall 2004 dean's list at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.


Freshman guard Marisa Clark of Hilton has been named the ECAC Division III South Region Player of the Week for February 20. She was also named AMCC Conference player of the week.


Kara Placito, a student at SUNY Fredonia majoring in English adolesence education, has been named to the fall 2004 dean's list. She is the daughter of JoAnne and Chuck Placito of Ogden.


Michael Placito, a student at Niagara University, was named to the fall 2004 dean's list. He is the son of JoAnne and Chuck Placito of Ogden.


The following students enrolled at Syracuse University were named to the dean's list for the fall 2004 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.

  • David Robinson of Brockport. Robinson is a junior majoring in newspaper journalism;
  • Matthew McGrath of Hilton. McGrath is a senior majoring in public relations;
  • Adam McWilliams of Rochester. McWilliams is a senior majoring in architecture;
  • Jay Giese of Morton. Giese is a senior majoring in television, radio and film;
  • Shannon Ealy of Spencerport. Ealy is a freshman majoring in television, radio and film;
  • Kathleen Foley of Spencerport. Foley is a senior majoring in public relations.
  • Christopher Page of Rochester. Page is a senior majoring in industrial design.
  • Jessica Foley of Churchville. Foley is a junior majoring in art education;
  • Elisabeth Curran of Hilton. Curran is a junior majoring in environmental design (interiors);
  • Amanda Pappert of Hilton. Pappert is a junior majoring in film; and oJenna Barber of Holley. Barber is a junior majoring in musical theater.

Cazenovia College's dean's list for the fall semester of 2004 includes the following students from this area:

  • Ashlee E. Parizek of Hilton is majoring in management, business management; and
  • Renee E. Strobel of Rochester is majoring in management, business management.

Amber Champlin, a student at All Saints Catholic Academy, recently cut and donated 10 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love program. This program makes wigs from donated human hair for cancer victims. Champlin heard about this program from friends and she decided to donate her hair.


Chas Belfield, an eighth grade general music student at All Saints Catholic Academy, is one of three grand prize winners in the December 2004 issue of "Music Alive" magazine.

Belfield won a Dell MP3 player and 75 free downloads. His picture and CD review will be published in the May 2005 issue.


A Monroe County resident has been awarded approximately $3,700 for the Presidential Scholarship to attend Alfred State College.

Jonathan Tifone of Hilton is slated to graduate in 2005 from Hilton High School.


Stephen Riorden, a UPS employee, was honored for completing 15 years of service with the company.

Riorden, who is a full-time package preloader with UPS in Rochester, began his career as a casual package driver. Since then, he has also worked as a full-time package driver and as a preloader.

Riorden and his fiancée, Bonnie, live in Spencerport. They have four children: Samantha, Bailey, Nick and Scott.


Darren J. Lipomi, a resident of Hilton, was named to the dean's list at Boston University for the fall semester.


Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Bradley J. Brooks has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Raymond and Veronica Brooks of Spencerport and is a 2004 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Army Pfc. Robert E. Coss III has graduated from the Light-wheeled Vehicle Mechanic advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.

Coss' parents are Rachel L. and Robert E. Coss of Hilton. He is a 2004 graduate of Hilton High School.


United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal David Graham, son of Christopher and Cindy Graham of Brockport, and a 2003 graduate of Brockport High School, has returned from a seven-month deployment in Iraq with the USMC Regimental Combat Team 7. His unit conducted security and stability operations across the vast Al Anbar Province in Western Iraq. They also provided border security along the Syrian and Jordanian border-crossings and assisted in the training of several elite Iraqi Special Forces units.

Graham was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the decisive Battle of Fallujah. His company was one of the few that fought through the entire length of the city in November and December 2004, suffering significant casualties.

Graham serves with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He is an automatic rifleman in his fire team and a trained sharpshooter.


Army Pfc. Krystal M. DiSonto has graduated from the Multiple Launch Rocket System Repairer Advanced Individual Training course at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama.

DiSonto is the daughter of Brenda J. Bran of East Upper Avenue, Akron and Michael A. DiSonto of Chambers Street, Spencerport.


Fireman Donny Hampton graduated from U.S. Navy Basic Training on January 28. He was Drum Line Leader for the ceremony.

Hampton will continue his training with Class A (Machinist's Mate) School in the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command at Charleston, South Carolina.

He is the son of Gary and Nora Hampton of Spencerport.
