Students raise funds for tsunami victims

Students at the Brockport Central Oliver Middle School raised $750 for tsunami relief efforts. The fundraising theme was "Looking for LifeSavers."

Students who donated at least one dollar received a certificate for a treat of LifeSavers candy to thank them for their generosity.

The collection table was often busy, according to student Aylesia Adams. She found students were glad to help. "We've been learning about the disaster in class. Our teacher, Miss Leslie Bull, showed us how tsunamis are formed and we got to see the devastation over there," she said.

Teachers at Oliver Middle School supported the sixth graders' efforts by matching the $375 in student donations for a total of $750. Proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund.
