Traffic safety office sponsors safety awareness contest

The Monroe County Office of Traffic Safety, together with the Rochester General Hospital Association and TWIGS, are sponsoring the 17th annual Wheeled Vehicle Safety Awareness Contest. The contest is designed to raise awareness about wheeled vehicle safety among children and is open to all kindergarten through sixth grade students in Monroe County.

More than 500,000 students have participated in the contest since it was launched in 1989. Last year, more than 3,600 entries were received in the competition, with 28 grand-prize winners and 401 first-place winners. This year's grand-prize winners receive a new bicycle and helmet. First-place winners receive a bicycle helmet.

Schools across the area are participating in the contest. If your child has not received an entry form at school, they can participate in the contest directly by downloading an entry form at www.monroecounty.gov by clicking on Public Safety and then Traffic Safety.

The deadline to enter the contest is April 1. Completed entries should be returned to: 2005 Wheeled Vehicle Safety Awareness Contest, Monroe County Office of Traffic Safety, 50 West Main Street, Rochester, NY 14614.
