Riga Republican Committee offers citizenship award

The Riga Republican Committee will be offering its second annual Citizenship Award in the amount of $500. The award is available to all Town of Riga residents who are between the ages of 16 and 21. The Citizenship Award may be used for educational travel, training, education, trade tools or personal improvement. Past recipients of the award are not eligible.

Applicants must complete a brief questionnaire to describe how they would use the citizenship award, how their involvement in the community along with any training or employment in the community has made an impact on others and how these actions demonstrate the Riga Republican Committee's motto "One Person Can Make A Difference."

Factors that will be considered in choosing the recipient include: educational achievements, employment history, contributions to the community, participation in student government and extra curricular activities, volunteer service, evidence of leadership skills, tenacity and perseverance as a student and past or present employee or volunteer experience.

Applications are available at the Newman Riga Library, various businesses in Riga and at local schools. Call Deborah Campanella at 585-293-2111 to request an application.

Last year's recipient, Hannah Stenglein, daughter of William and Denise Stenglein, was chosen following a review of her educational achievements, community involvement, volunteer service, excellent references and submission of an essay about how "One Person Can Make A Difference."

Qualified Riga residents should complete an application and return it prior to the April 30 deadline.
