Local Elks supply dictionaries

David Yeaw, Exalted Ruler of the Brockport Elks Lodge 2110, recently told third-graders at Brockport's Barclay Elementary School that their words are powerful. "You will be judged all your life on how well you express yourselves," he said. "You are the future of this country and you need to be well educated." To help the students become better educated, members of the Elks Lodge gave all 289 students a dictionary to reference throughout their school years and future. Yeaw, along with Tim Ainsworth, Michael Cunningham, Jack Hall, Joel Johnson, and David Ross made sure each student received a dictionary as part of a program started in Souh Carolina with a goal of distributing dictionaries to all third-grade students in America. Above, third-graders Jane Cripe (left) and Brooke Hare look through the dictionaries members of the Brockport Elks Lodge 2110 gave them. In addition to words, the dictionaries included world maps, countries, states, square miles, and spelling charts.
