Workshop offers hands-on tools for teachers

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County and Genesee Community College have partnered to host a Hydroponics Workshop for Teachers April 15. The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Genesee Community College, 1 College Road in Batavia.

Hydroponics is the science of growing plants in solutions rather than in soil. The workshop will provide educators with the tools to teach plant science in a manner that is compatible with the classroom.

The itinerary for the day includes a tour of a hydroponics greenhouse and a hands-on workshop in which participants will make two versions of hydroponics systems. Teachers can earn in-service credits, and will receive an educational CD that includes curriculum, hydroponics designs and virtual tours. Lunch will be provided.

Reservations are limited to the first 35 persons. Cost is $25 per person. For information or to make reservations, contact Pat LaPoint, agriculture educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County, at (585) 343-3040, ext. 118 or pal9@cornell.edu.
