Brockport dockmaster meeting scheduled

Volunteers for Brockport's new canalside Welcome Center will begin their dockmaster/greeter orientation at the Village Hall on April 26 at 7 p.m.

Volunteer Coordinator William Andrews said he has quite a few volunteers who have signed up. He is trying to coordinate schedules so volunteers only work two hour shifts once a week. Volunteers will greet arriving boaters and other canal travelers at the Welcome Center, help them get oriented to the community, provide access to the facility, collect overnight docking fees and monitor the docking area of the canal front.

"We're trying to come up with very flexible schedules for the volunteers," he said.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to attend the April 26 meeting.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony is scheduled at the center on April 30 at 2 p.m. The canal opens May 1.
