Brockport establishes 'tree board'

As a way to help replenish and preserve Brockport's natural tree resources, a Village of Brockport Tree Board was established.

Mayor Josephine Matela said in order for the village to participate in the Tree City USA initiatives, the village had to establish a tree board to look at the ordinances and other issues relating to tree maintenance in the village. "We want to plan for the future and trees are one of the natural resources that the village wants to take care of," she said.

Mark Beckwith approached the board with the idea of Brockport's involvement in the Tree City USA project. The slate of officers chosen for the tree board are: Margaret Blackman, Matela, Mark Dunham, Jackie Morris, John Streb and Beckwith. Rick Lair will serve as a consultant to the board.

With the forming of the tree board, a charter will be drafted and members will begin working on ordinances involving trees.
