Men's basketball signs first recruit

Tyler Mutton of Brockport has signed a national letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Houghton College, Highlanders head coach Brad Zarges announced.

Mutton, over six feet tall, is a two-time All Greater Rochester second team selection, and averaged 15.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 2004-05. He also hit 39 three pointers during his senior campaign for a Brockport team that finished 13-6. He was selected to the All-Monroe County Division I First Team the past two seasons and earned second team honors as a sophomore. He was named the Section V Bird's Eye Player of the Week for Monroe County during his senior season.

Mutton, who averaged 17.6 points per game as a junior, finished his career as Brockport's second all-time leading scorer with 946 points and is just the third player in school history to play four years on varsity. He was selected as an alternate on the Western Region's Scholastic team at last summer's Empire State Games.

"Tyler is a great addition to our roster. He brings the versatility to play multiple positions. As a perimeter shooter, he can really stretch defenses. He can also handle like a point guard, and his vision of the floor coupled with excellent passing makes everyone on the floor better," said Zarges. "In addition, he finishes very well off the bounce which makes him a true triple threat player. Besides Tyler's basketball skills, he is the kind of competitor that raises his level of play when the game is on the line."
