Riga residents to receive free refuse, recycling collection

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks joined Riga Town Supervisor Tim Rowe and Jeff Richardson, vice president of Waste Management, to announce curbside residential refuse and recycling service for Riga residents. This service, provided at no charge to Riga residents, is a result of the County of Monroe and Town of Riga Host Community Agreement.

"We are happy to announce that, beginning May 1, Waste Management will provide residential curbside refuse and recycling collection at no charge to all residents of the Town of Riga," said Brooks.

"We are committed to continuing to provide town residents with a responsible government and high-quality services," Rowe said. "We're looking forward to the start of this new benefit for our residents."

The town is paying $160,000 toward this service. The payment is being made to the county and the county will bid the actual service to be performed and will pay the cost difference, if there is any.

Waste Management began distributing 96-gallon toters to all town residents. On May 1, Waste Management will begin their regular collection routes throughout the town. Residents can continue to use their current recycling bins.
