Churchville-Chili music students excel in competition

On Friday, April 1, the Churchville-Chili Senior High School music department took part in the Classic Festivals Music Competition held in Atlanta, Georgia. All six of the school's ensembles participated.

The format of the competition involved three judges listening to the performances, providing taped and written comments, and working with each group. The chorus earned an "excellent rating with the other five Churchville ensembles receiving the top rating of "superior." Two Churchville students were also given outstanding soloist awards. Trombonist Jim Cliver was recognized for his performance of the jazz standard Didn't We with Swinging Saints. Vocalist Katelyn Machnica was given high praise for her leading role in Singing Saints' production of Hairspray.

The community is invited to hear the award-winning Churchville music ensembles during the May concert season. The Spring Choral Concert will be on May 16. The Wind Ensemble and 2B Symphonic Band will perform May 19 and the 3A Symphonic Band and selected chamber music groups will perform on May 23. All three concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium and are free and open to the public. The final opportunity to hear groups from all six Churchville-Chili schools will be at the 10th Annual Community Music Festival on June 5.
