Route 531 project website updated

Residents interested in updates and progress on the Route 531 extension project can now go to a project specific website to learn about the project, provide comments or take a survey.

Lori Maher, public information officer with the NYS Department of Transportation, said the website is a place for the DOT to share information with motorists and other stakeholders interested in the status of the Route 531 Extension project in the Towns of Ogden and Sweden.

The site is www.dot.state.ny.us. Select Rochester Area Project Center on the homepage then click the Route 531 logo.

The website includes information on the project timeline, key milestones, public meeting announcements, frequently asked questions and the project team's contact information.

"The users of our highway system have come to expect project information on our website," NYSDOT Regional Director Charles Moynihan said. "The website serves as a way for the DOT to share information with the public but more importantly it provides a venue for customers to communicate with us by taking the survey or submitting comments electronically."

The 531 extension project is currently in the preliminary engineering and environmental investigations phase. Maher said the project will take into consideration community input, safety, traffic, pavement and system needs as well as economic development and be baled with potential impacts to the natural and manmade environment.
