Orleans county roadway to
receive Memorial Highway designation

In 2004, the NYS Senate and the Assembly passed legislation to rename Route 104 in Orleans County as the Orleans County American Legion Highway.

On Armed Forces Day, May 21, at 9 a.m. the road will receive its official designation and a sign unveiling ceremony will take place at the Monroe/Orleans County Line Road on Route 104.

Michael Giglio, chairman of the Orleans County American Legion Memorial Highway committee, said, "Our goal is to ensure that the citizens of the county and state will be reminded of what the veterans have done for the United States of America."

Giglio said the sign and ceremony will be a visible reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by the veterans.

"We owe so much to the brave men and women who risk their lives to defend our country," said Senator George D. Maziarz. "Renaming this highway is a special way to say 'thank you' to our veterans, and I'm proud to have worked with the American Legion to get it done. We're unveiling the new sign on Armed Forces Day in tribute to the members of the military serving today around the world."

Following the ceremony, at which Maziarz will speak, a reception will be hosted at the Jewell Buckman American Legion Post 529, 5 Wright Street, Holley
