New Visions students raise funds for Lakeside

Students from New Visions of BOCES II held a candy sale at Lakeside donating proceeds of $500. New Visions is a career group offered by BOCES II in Spencerport to high school seniors. Students interested in careers in the health field are offered several opportunities at Lakeside where they receive work experience while gaining college credit.

Sarah Gaylord from Kendall High School originally hoped to work in Occupational Therapy, but after being around nurses at other programs she now prefers nursing. "I definitely feel it's a worthwhile experience, and I've learned so much from shadowing nurses in the Emergency Department. It's very interesting and has been a great opportunity for me to decide on a career for my future," she said.

Allen Jeter attends Holley Central High School and has also performed a variety of rotations at Lakeside. "I'm looking for a career in athletic training. My experience in physical therapy and radiology has provided valuable insight for that career. Diversity of the work experiences is a great benefit to my preparation for a career," Jeter said.

Gloria Lear, volunteer coordinator at Lakeside, coordinates internships and is involved in the recruitment process. Only students maintaining a GPA of 85 or higher, along with consistent attendance records, are considered for the program. The application process requires a written essay and letters of reference.
