School budgets pass, board members elected

Voters across the county and in Orleans county gave the "thumbs up" to budgets across the board on Tuesday.

In Hilton, voters passed the $57.1 million budget and bus proposition. The bus purchase proposition in the amount of $845,200 passed by a vote of 1,017 to 672. The budget passed with a vote of 1,163 to 767.

In an uncontested race, incumbent Aggie Seneway received 1,561 votes and Tim Gagnon garnered 1,524.

Voters in Brockport approved the $54.9 million budget by a vote of 979 for and 387 against. Propositions for school buses and facility renovations also passed by a margin of 929 for, 430 against and 926 for and 437 against, respectively. James Kenney was re-elected with 980 votes; candidate Terry Wolfe received 308 votes.

Churchville-Chili voters passed the $58.2 million budget with 1,024 voting yes, 609 voting no. A school bus purchase proposition passed by a vote of 1,058 to 536. Vote getters for the school board were: Thomas Smithgal with 851, Kevin Naughton with 843 and Michael Iacucci with 787.

Voters in the Holley and Kendall school districts also approved budgets.

In Holley the $17 million budget was approved by a 619 to 213 vote while the library proposition passed 526 to 253. Top vote getters for the school board were: Melissa Ierlan, 556; Eric Spencer, 535; and Norman Knight, 469.

Kendall voters ratified a $14.3 million budget by a margin of 398 to 140. Propositions for a school bus fund and school bus payments were also approved by a margin of 355 to 124 and 339 to 117, respectively.

Christine Klafehn earned 274 votes in her bid for a school board seat.

The Spencerport Central School District's $58.1 million budget was approved by voters, 1,239 to 891.

Incumbents Laura McFarlane and David Dorofy won re-election for a three-year term. McFarlane, president of the board, was the top vote-getter with 1,506, while Dorofy, the current vice president, had 1,476. Former board member Dennis Dupree, who had served on the board from 1997 to 2001, had 182 votes in a write-in campaign to get the third available seat.
