Kendall Republicans announce candidate endorsements

The cannon may be back in the cemetery in Kendall but its loss cost the present town board the endorsements of the Republican party.

"We endorsed three different candidates than those who were involved in the cannon deal. It was determined that the town needed a change," Charles Scroger said. Scroger resigned as GOP chairman to run as a town councilman. "People were upset with the vote on the cannon," he said.

In addition to Scroger, the Republican party endorsed David Schuth for councilman and Bill Vick for town supervisor.

Current Supervisor John Becker said it will be "good old fashioned politics" in Kendall in November and that there would be a primary in September.

"We're disappointed to have not received the endorsement but those of us who are on the board now plan to stay and will push a primary," Becker said.

Becker cited accomplishments from the present board including how the town and the county partnered to bring more than $1.2 million in water grants to residents and the fact that more than 50 percent of town residents have access to public water.

"The town has essentially no debt," Becker said. "The present board is going to run on its record."
