C-C athletes recognized at upcoming awards banquet

The Churchville-Chili Sports Booster Club hosts its annual Sports Banquet to honor the district's outstanding athletes on June 6 at the Diplomat Party House. Winners of several scholarships will also be announced that night.

The guest speaker will be University of Buffalo's cross country head coach, Vicki Mitchell. Mitchell is in her sixth season with the UB program, her third season as head cross country coach for the men's and women's teams. In addition to her coaching duties, she serves as the recruiting director for her teams. Mitchell is a successful athlete in her own right, being a seven-time NCAA Cross Country/Track and Field national champion, ten times an All-American, a member of five USA national teams, a 1994 Penn Relay 10,000 meter champion and having competed in the 1996 U.S. Olympic 10,000 meter trials. She began her coaching career at Holy Angels Academy as head cross country/track and field coach and then went on to William Jewell College as their Distance coach. From there, she moved to UB as an assistant coach, eventually progressing to the head coach position. Under her tutelage several UB students reached their goals of competing at the NCAA Championships.

Tickets for the sports banquet are available in the Senior High School Main Office the week of May 30 through June 3 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the District Central Office at 139 Fairbanks Road.
