Book donation brings gift of reading

Rebecca Sailus, a freshman at Brockport High School and a member of the Cadet Scout Troop 537, undertook a project to benefit the children of Lakeside Child Care in efforts to enrich their lives through the gift of reading.

As a Silver community project, Sailus decided she would collect new children's books and donate them to the center. "As a volunteer at Seymour Library and an avid reader myself, I firmly believe in the importance of all children having access to reading material," Sailus stated. With that in mind, she approached several local businesses for their support.

A requirement of her project restricted her from accepting cash donations, so after receiving gift certificates and books from such businesses as Eckerd Drugs, Lift Bridge Books and Fab Books, she was able to donate 154 books to Lakeside Child Care.
