Brockport Bienvenida celebration
welcomes migrant farm workers

Bienvenida, a word meaning the welcoming, brings many elements of the community together to show appreciation for the farm workers' contribution to the area. It also raises awareness of their hardships and struggles.

The Brockport Ecumenical Outreach Committee, an alliance of area churches, the Migrant Education Opportunity Program, Hispanic Migrant Ministries as well as other interested area residents, are organizing a day of celebration to welcome hundreds of migrant farm workers, who have arrived to start the farming season.

On Sunday, June 26, three events are planned, continuing a tradition of more than 20 years. A bilingual service will be held at Nativity Church, 152 Main Street at 1 p.m. From the service, there will be a procession to the First Baptist Church, 124 Main Street, where a dinner will be provided at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome. A dance will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the SUNY Brockport Tower Fine Arts Building on Holley Street.

Community participation in Bienvenida is encouraged. For information contact Karen Richardson, chairperson of BEOC at 638-0222 or Kathy Goetz, this year's event coordinator, at 637-5546.
