Paving work begins on Route 31 in Gates

The NYS Department of Transportation started a highway project to mill and resurface Route 31 (Lyell Ave.) from Long Pond Road to the Rochester City line in the town of Gates, on June 8.

The project includes widening the shoulder on a section of Route 31 approximately between Long Pond Road and Howard Road. Drainage structures and ditches will be cleaned, signs will be replaced and traffic loops embedded in the pavement will be replaced.

Motorists should expect lane closures and one-way alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers during the daytime hours throughout the summer. Some weekends work will be necessary. The project is expected to be complete by October 2005.

Access to nearby businesses and residential driveways will remain open.
