Anne Lynch, Health Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department, is shown with one of the stretchers purchased with funds raised during Lakeside Memorial Hospital's 2004 telemarketing campaign.

Donors fund hospital equipment purchases

The purchase of two stretchers such as the one shown above was made possible by the donation of over $5,200 by 124 individuals in the area. Cora Goyette and Jean Sciacchitano conducted the direct call campaign for Lakeside Hospital in 2004, often speaking to donors they have contacted in years past in similar telemarketing efforts. Non-profit solicitations are not subject to recent rulings on telemarketing, according to hospital officials.

In addition to the stretchers, Lakeside's Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is also using a family paging system purchased with the funds raised. After surgical procedures are performed, physicians page family members to meet in a predetermined location to obtain results of the procedure. The pagers allow family members to take a walk or visit the cafeteria while waiting for surgery to be completed.

The 2005 direct call campaign is underway. Donations will fund the purchase of hospital equipment such as a pressure transducer used in respiratory therapy and two pulse oximeters.
