Paving process begins - Even this little bit of asphalt will make residents who travel three streets under rehab in Spencerport very happy. Crews from Gordon J. Phillips Construction Company were last week preparing for a binder coat on Coolidge Avenue with some patch work at the Lyell Avenue intersection. Work began in April on a total reconstruction of Coolidge, Coleman and Barrett Avenues in the village. Roadways became dirt and gravel tracks as workers installed new water lines and installed curbing in some sections and gutters in others.

work on schedule

According to Spencerport village officials, other than a few "notification" glitches, the street work in Spencerport is progressing on schedule.

Spencerport Department of Public Works Superintendent Tom West said, "The project is going well and is on time."

West said the only problems the village has run into, and has fielded complaints from residents about the project, is the lack of notification by construction crews as to when they were going to be digging up driveways. "There were times we weren't able to let people know their driveways were going to be dug up. We're working on resolving the lack of notification issue," West said.

The roadwork taking place along Coleman, Coolidge and Barrett Avenues in the village is part of a major road rehabilitation project.

West said Coolidge and Barrett will likely be paved with the first layer of binder coating within the next week. On Coleman Avenue, he said, the water main has been installed.

Both West and Mayor Ted Walker say the project is on schedule and will wrap up in September as anticipated.
