Brockport Troop 111 celebrates Eagle Scout honor

On June 5, Troop 111 held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor and presented Mark MacEwan with Boy Scouting's highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout. The ceremony was hosted by Scoutmaster Mike Sinopoli, with the assistance of former Scoutmaster Ken Rombaut, Eagle counselor Joe Wieczorek, Troop Committee Chairman Dave Moon, Assistant Scoutmaster Mike Krahe, and committee member Mark Scheda. A special moment was the reading of the Eagle Challenge by Mark's older brother, Paul MacEwan, also an Eagle Scout.

To earn the Eagle Scout award, Mark earned 12 required and 27 additional Merit Badges since joining Troop 111 in 2000. He has also held the following positions in the troop: scribe, librarian, patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader. He began his scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 228 as a Wolf scout in 1996, ultimately earning all 20 Activity pins as a Webelos scout. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has earned the Parvuli Dei and Ad Altari Dei religious medals.

MacEwan's Eagle project to benefit the community was a renovation of the swimming records board at the Brockport High School pool. This involved removing the existing materials from the wall and labeling them. The wood frame pieces were filled, sanded and repainted. Additional framing and a new center section were acquired. He fabricated and lettered new placards for 13 swimming and diving event names, boys/girl category labels and placards for the varsity/JV/pool record sections of the board. The board, measuring eight feet high by 38 feet long, was reassembled in September 2004 with the final touches finished in December, along with signs identifying Brockport Swimming over the board and in an outer hallway in the school. Twenty-one volunteers contributed 160 hours to the project.

He is the son of Dan and Diane MacEwan of Ogden, and brother of Colleen and Paul.
