Newsmakers for the week of
July 3, 2005


Melissa A. Hudson, Trimmer Road, Spencerport, has achieved the dean's list at SUNY College at Brockport for spring of 2005. She is a 2000 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School and the daughter of Karen and Robert Hudson.

Hudson graduated in May 2005 with a bachelor of science degree. She was a member of Etta Sigma Gamma Honor Society. She plans to attend graduate school to become a health psychologist.


Brian Rebman has been named to the dean's list at SUNY Potsdam for the spring semester. A freshman, Rebman is majoring in secondary education and history. He is the son of Pat and Steve Rebman of Ogden.


Erik Rebman, a 2005 graduate of Genesee Community College, has been named to the president's list for the spring semester. He earned his AAS degree in marketing. A former Eagle Scout with Troop 292, and Assistant Scout Master, Rebman will be spending his second summer as director of the C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) and climbing/rappelling areas at Camp Massawepie, the Boy Scouts of America's summer facilities in the Adirondack Mountains. He is the son of Pat and Steve Rebman of Ogden.


Derek J. Pulhamus was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of Rochester. He has been formally accepted into the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Pulhamus is a 2003 graduate of Spencerport High School and the son of David and Marsha Pulhamus, Spencerport.


Holly Snell, daughter of Robert and Patricia Snell of Kendall, has been named to the 2005 spring dean's list at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. To be named to the dean's list, a student must obtain a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.

Snell, a member of the class of 2006, graduated from Kendall High School. She is majoring in psychology.


Sara Zorn was recognized by the faculty and staff of Churchville-Chili High School as the Lee Cup award winner as the most outstanding 12th grade female student. She is a varsity tri-athlete; she competed in soccer, volleyball and track. Zorn was also awarded the 2005 Churchville-Chili Sports Boosters' most dedicated athlete as well as the James Francis Memorial award for outstanding female track athlete. Zorn also received the Scott Zorn sportsmanship memorial scholarship award chosen by the varsity soccer program's coaches.

A high honor roll student, Zorn participated in student council, The Link Crew, and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society.

Zorn has received the Churchville-Chili Federal Credit Union scholarship award, the New York State Education Department scholarship for academic excellence and was awarded a merit scholarship from Clarkson University.

Zorn will be studying biomolecular science at Clarkson University in the fall.

She is the daughter of Chris and Kathleen Daly and the late Scott Zorn.


Kelly Siegfried has been selected for "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" for the 2004-2005 academic year. She is a member of the Class of Special at Wells College, located in the Finger Lakes region of central New York. She is the daughter of David and Cynthia Siegfried of Brockport.


Vanessa R. Taylor, a first-year student at the College of the Holy Cross, has been named to the dean's list. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas A. Taylor of Spencerport.


The following students have been promoted by Kyoshi Mark A. Caparco of Caparco Martial Arts: Katharine Kalamaroff, of Spencerport, third degree in Aiki Jujutsu and second degree in Iaido (Japanese Swordsmanship); Claudia Egan, of Chili, first degree in Aiki Jujutsu; and Jake Duell, of Gates, first degree in Iaido.


Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has announced the names of students who made the Institute's dean's list for the spring semester. They are: Laura J. Byrnes, Cory P. McWilliams, and Daniel J. Yanklowski of Rochester; Kathleen J. Dumas of Brockport; Danielle L. LeBeau of Spencerport; and Lee V. McOmber of Hilton.


Kristina Resch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Resch and Mr. and Mrs. James Green, both of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2005 dean's list at St. John Fisher College. Resch, a sophomore, is a special ed major.


The following students at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2005 semester: Sara Cody of Brockport; Erin Krisher of Churchville; Jeremy Bauerle of Holley; and Renee Bonneau of Rochester.


The following students received undergraduate degrees from St. Bonaventure University during commencement ceremonies on May 15: Melissa J. Weise received a bachelor of science in education, magna cum laude. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Weise of Spencerport; Gregory C. Mahns earned a bachelor of science degree. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin G. Mahns of Hilton; and Stephanie A. Young earned a bachelor of arts degree. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas T. Young of Hilton.


Jeremy G. Daum of Spencerport was named to the spring 2005 vice president's list at Mohawk Valley Community College.


Katrina Schmidt, daughter of Kim and Patrick Schmidt of Ogden, has been named to the spring 2005 dean's list at St. John Fisher College. Schmidt graduated from Fisher, magna cum laude, in May 2005, with a degree in elementary education/ special education. This fall, she begins graduate studies through the Greater Rochester Collaborative Masters in Social Work Program, a partnership of SUNY Brockport and Nazareth College.


Kelly Schmidt, daughter of Kim and Patrick Schmidt of Ogden, has been named to the spring 2005 dean's list at SUNY Brockport. Schmidt is a junior, majoring in history and secondary education.


Kira J. Mikels, of Hilton, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A fifth-year student in RIT's College of Applied Science and Technology, Mikels is studying mechanical engineering technology. Mikels is the daughter of Bill and Nancy Mikels and is a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.


Amanda Thompson has been named to the 2005 spring semester dean's list at the SUNY College at Oswego. A 2001 graduate of Brockport High School, she is the daughter of Neil Thompson and Connie and Jim Graves. She is pursuing a career in elementary education at SUNY Oswego.


Kyle M. Brooks of Holley has earned the dean's list recognition at SUNY College at Brockport for spring 2005. He is a 2003 graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School in North Carolina and is the son of Matthew and Trudy Brooks.


Chad A. Brooks of Holley earned dean's list recognition at Monroe Community College for spring 2005. He is a 2004 graduate of Holley High School and is the son of Matthew and Trudy Brooks.


On Wednesday, July 6 at 11 a.m. there will be a change of command ceremony for Chief Boatswain's Mate Williams J. "Bones" Mosgrober. Mosgrober has been the Officer in Charge of U.S. Coast Guard Station Rochester since 2000 and will be handing command to incoming Chief Stephen Engle.
