Volunteers greet cyclists from
across U.S.

Volunteer greeters Hanny Heyen and Margay Blackmon (second and third from left) and Village of Brockport Mayor Mort Wexler, Vice-Mayor Carrie Maziarz, (second and third from right) greet cyclists from across the U.S. as they trek the length of the Erie Canal. Brockport area volunteers, including Wexler and Maziarz, spent part of their Monday greeting out-of-town visitors as they passed through Brockport as part of the NYS Canalway Trails Association's 7th Annual Erie Canal Bike Ride. Between 400 and 500 riders trekked through the village on their way east on the local leg of the Buffalo to Albany ride. The Village of Brockport Welcome Center Canal Front Hospitality Program was suggested by Brockport's own canal front greeters and bike ride participants Dick and Carol Rizzo. Organized by greeter Hanny Heyen, the riders received ice and water, information on the village and directions to local points of interest. Several riders took advantage of the proximity of Bicycle Outfitters on Main Street to purchase equipment and make repairs; others ate lunch at local eateries.
