Family and friends join in celebration of 100th birthday

Cecelia M. Clark, a resident at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport, celebrated her 100th birthday with family, friends, neighbors and employees and a family celebration July 3. The Care Center also enjoyed a birthday party on July 8.

Clark was born on July 9, 1905 in Hobson, Texas to Louise and August Kellman. She was the sixth of nine children. In 1914, she moved to Rochester with her family. For many years they lived in Webster, where she spent many summers picking apples, strawberries and whatever produce was in season to help out with the family expenses.

Clark was employed at Eastman Kodak Company from 1933-1937. She married Lester C. Clark on November 14, 1933. They built a home on Dorsey Road in Greece in 1937. She lived in that home until May 2001, when she moved to an assisted living home. She moved to Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in October 2002.

During her years in Greece, Clark volunteered many hours for the American Red Cross. She also enjoyed teaching sewing and tailoring classes for Greece Continuing Education from 1951-1973. She also worked for McCurdy's from 1954-1965.

Clark loved to knit, crochet and create hooked rugs. She also loved flowers and tended to her flower gardens that gave her so much joy. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining in her home. After her husband died in 1976, Clark became active in the Greece Senior Citizens and always looked forward to visiting with her friends to play cards and take day trips and dinner outings. She remained very active and drove her car until she was about 92 years old.

Clark has one daughter, Marian, married to Art Tanghe; three grandchildren, Michael Tanghe, Linda Graves and her husband, Brad, Steven Tanghe and his wife Tomi; six grandchildren, Christopher Tanghe, David and Matthew Graves, Scott, Kyle and Kira Tanghe.
